What are 3D, 4D, and 5D elective ultrasounds?
5D ultrasound creates a five-dimensional image of the fetus, 3D ultrasound creates a three-dimensional image, while 4D ultrasound adds the element of real-time motion to the images. This means that instead of seeing a flat, two-dimensional picture of your baby, you can see a detailed, lifelike representation of your little one in three dimensions. With 4D ultrasound, you can see your baby moving in real-time as if watching a movie about your pregnancy.
The process for a 3D/4D/5D ultrasound is similar to that of a standard 2D ultrasound. You will lie on an exam table, and the sonographer will apply a special gel to your abdomen to help the ultrasound probe slide smoothly over your skin. The probe will then emit high-frequency sound waves that bounce off the fetus and create an image of your baby on a computer screen. The sonographer will move the probe around your abdomen to capture different angles and views of your baby.
